How to choose an online test platform for coaching institutes in India (2026)
Last updated · By LogicWiz Team
Short answer: Choose an online test platform for a coaching institute by testing it against your own exam first: the exam screen, negative marking, section timers, rank lists, regional-language papers and proctoring should all work on a paper you already use. Eight platforms are compared below from their own pages (Testpress, Edmingle, Classplus, Teachmint, ThePrepLab, PaperShala, SpeedExam and LogicWiz Exams), and they differ most on language support, proctoring depth and whether you get a branded app. Ask each vendor for a trial on one real paper and the full cost of a year before you sign.
A coaching institute in India usually needs one thing from a test platform: run the institute's own paper, on a screen that looks like the real exam, and give back marks, ranks and weak topics the same evening. Platforms differ a lot in how well they do that. This guide gives a checklist to test any platform with, then compares eight of them on what each states on its own website, which we read on 22 October 2026. LogicWiz Exams is one of the eight and we are not neutral, so every claim about another platform links to the page it came from. Plans change often, so check each vendor before you decide.
The buyer's checklist
Run every vendor through the same list, using one paper your institute already sets.
- Exam-format fidelity. Does the exam screen look like the one your students will meet (question palette, mark for review, section tabs)? Students lose marks to an unfamiliar screen.
- Sectional timers. Can each section have its own timer, and what happens when a section ends?
- Negative marking. Can you set it per exam, and can it differ by question type? Test with multiple-correct and numeric questions.
- Rank lists and percentiles. Do students get a rank, a percentile and a question-wise breakdown? Can you export every result to Excel?
- Analytics. Can you see weak topics by batch, time spent per question and which questions were skipped?
- Proctoring. Is it webcam checks, tab-switch tracking, a secure browser or a live monitor? Is it included or an add-on? Who reviews the flags?
- Offline OMR. If some of your tests are paper-based, can the platform scan OMR sheets and merge those scores with online scores?
- Handwritten answers. For subjective papers, can students photograph their answers, and can a teacher mark them on screen?
- Regional languages. Can you set papers in Hindi or another language, and can you bring in old papers typed in a legacy font such as Kruti Dev without retyping?
- White-label. Is there an app or site carrying your institute's name, or does the student see the vendor's brand?
- Data ownership. Who owns your question bank and student results, can you export them, and are they kept apart from other institutes?
- Cost model. Ask how you are charged (per student, per exam, per seat or flat), what is an add-on, what happens when you exceed a limit, and what a full year costs for your batch sizes. Many vendors give rates only after a demo call, so get the year's total in writing.
What eight platforms state publicly
The table records only what each platform's own pages say. "Not stated" means we did not find it on the pages we read, not that the platform lacks it. We list no prices.
| Platform | What its pages state | Not stated on the pages we read |
|---|---|---|
| Testpress | Webcam proctoring on timed exams, section-wise timing, rank combining online and offline scores, analytics by section and subject, many question types, exams in six languages with legacy-font import | Negative marking, branded apps |
| Edmingle | Mock tests with question banks and leaderboards for exam prep providers, AI-generated assessments, white-labelled web, iOS and Android apps with custom domain | Coaching-specific proctoring, negative marking, languages |
| Classplus | Positions itself as an app for coaching institutes | Our fetch could not read its test features because the page needs JavaScript; ask the vendor |
| Teachmint | Quizzes generated from lessons, automated grading and progress reports | Proctoring, white-label app, exam-format features |
| ThePrepLab | An institute-branded student app and an AI test generator that turns material into assessments you review | Proctoring, negative marking, multi-language delivery |
| PaperShala | Free open-source exam software, proctoring with webcam snapshots and a secured desktop browser option, student registration, instant results | Limits of the free plan, OMR |
| SpeedExam | Three proctoring types, secure browser lockdown, bulk scheduling, branding of the candidate site, analytics, free demo and a free account | Languages, OMR |
| LogicWiz Exams | See below | OMR scanning |

What stands out
- Languages. Testpress lists Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Bengali tabs and describes installing a legacy font (Kruti Dev, among others) so Word-typed papers upload. If your papers are in a regional language, this is a real strength.
- Proctoring. SpeedExam is the most detailed on its pages (image-based, audio and video, and AI-based modes, plus lockdown). PaperShala advertises proctoring as free and says its secured desktop program stops tab switching on papers set to use it.
- Branded apps. Edmingle and ThePrepLab describe apps under your name. Testpress's home page did not mention one.
- Cost. PaperShala describes itself as free and open source, SpeedExam offers a free account, and Testpress and Edmingle publish no rate on the pages we read. Ask each for the cost of a full year.
LogicWiz Exams
LogicWiz Exams runs your institute's tests on an NTA-style exam screen with a question palette and mark for review. The coaching institutes page states these features:
- Sections with their own timers, negative marking set by your institute, numeric answers and multiple-correct questions.
- Papers in Hindi, with Kruti Dev files imported as editable Hindi.
- Handwritten answers photographed from a phone by scanning a QR code during the exam.
- A camera face check on the student's device, an ID photo, fullscreen enforcement, tab-switch tracking, a suspicion score for each student and a live exam-day monitor.
- A rank list with percentiles by the NTA formula, answer-key challenges, a results page per exam and an Excel export.
- Certificates with a QR code that anyone can verify online.
- Each institute set up as its own organisation, so exams, students and results are not visible to other institutes.
The first 3 institutes that start with us get the first year free (our general plans are on the pricing page).
Where we are weaker: LogicWiz Exams does not scan OMR sheets, so it does not suit an institute that still runs most tests on paper. It is a newer product than several above and we do not list an institute-branded student app on our page. LogicWiz is also built to run alongside student practice and company-pattern mock tests, which matters to a placement-focused institute more than to a pure JEE or NEET one.
How to run the trial
If your institute also prepares students for campus placements, our placement preparation sites comparison covers the student side, and the exams for companies page covers screening tests.
- Take one real paper with a negative-marking rule, two sections and a few multiple-correct questions.
- Load it into each shortlisted platform and have ten students sit it on phones and laptops.
- Check the score against your manual key, then check the rank list, the analytics and the export.
- If you proctor, trigger a tab switch yourself and see what the teacher sees.
- Ask for the year's total cost and for the exit route: can you export your question bank and results?
Frequently asked questions
Which online test platform is best for a coaching institute in India?
None is best for every institute. Choose by your exam: a platform strong in regional languages for Hindi or Tamil papers, one with a branded app if you sell test series to the public, or one with deep proctoring for high-stakes mocks. Test each on one real paper before paying.
Do I need proctoring for coaching institute tests?
For weekly practice tests, usually not. For rank-deciding mocks or scholarship tests, yes, but check whether it is included or an add-on, and who reviews the flags. A suspicion score points a teacher to attempts worth reviewing; it should not decide a case alone.
Can an online test platform handle OMR sheets?
Some can, but the pages we read for Testpress, SpeedExam and PaperShala do not mention OMR scanning, and neither does ours. Testpress describes combining online and offline scores into one rank list. If you grade paper tests, ask each vendor how offline scores get in.
Can I run papers in Hindi or regional languages?
Yes on several platforms. Testpress describes six languages and legacy fonts, and LogicWiz Exams supports Hindi papers and Kruti Dev import. Test a paper in your own font, since formulas and mixed-script questions are where problems appear.
What should I ask about cost?
Ask what you are charged for (students, exams, seats or a flat fee), which features are add-ons, what happens above a limit, and the total for a year at your batch sizes. Ask in writing, because plans change.
Who owns our question bank and results?
Ask the vendor in writing. You want to export questions and results at any time, and you want your institute's data kept apart from every other institute on the platform.
